The general reputation of the 18-24 set is that they post their entire lives online, from what they had for dinner to the latest party pics, and damn the torpedoes! However, this may no longer be the case. A recent survey by the University of California, Berkeley, indicates that more than half of the young adults surveyed had become more concerned with privacy, and a new study by the Pew Internet Project indicates that 20 somethings tend to take more control over their online reputations than their older counterparts. The erosion of privacy, evolution of opinions over time (would you want your 5 year-old posts available for people to see today?), mistrust of how the sites use your data, and an awareness of privacy settings are all things that younger users seem to be both more aware of and concerned about than older users. Add to that the ability of third parties, like HR reps at companies you may be interviewing with, to view your profile on a social networking site, and you too may be thinking about what you post and looking to limit access. Stay tuned to this constantly evolving area.
